Bring your GIS files into the parcel research workflow

Upload a supported geospatial file and view it alongside Pillar's parcels and built-in layers. A useful import keeps the location, attributes, and meaning of the source data intact for the people reviewing the site.

  1. Prepare a complete file

Use GeoJSON, KML or KMZ, GeoPackage, a zipped shapefile, or a supported CSV or Excel file with coordinate columns. For a shapefile, include its required companion files in the archive. Check the coordinate system, field names, and geographic extent before uploading, especially when handing off data from another GIS tool.

  2. Upload and inspect the result

Open the Layers panel and use the Upload tab in the Layer Library. Follow the processing progress, then add the completed layer from Uploaded Layers. Compare its position with a known reference location and inspect the attributes. A file that processes successfully still deserves a check for misplaced geometry or unexpected units.

  3. Keep the source understandable to teammates

Use a layer name that identifies the dataset and its scope, and keep its source date with the research record. Uploaded layers are shared with your organization. Before adding a newer version, explain which file it updates so a teammate can distinguish the current data from an older comparison.

Questions to settle early

Can an address list be treated as parcel boundaries?

An address or coordinate locates a point. Review the matching parcel separately when the task needs a property boundary. Preserve the distinction in your imported fields and site notes.

What upload size can my account handle?

Free has separate ordinary-file and GIS-file limits; Pro allows larger files. Per-file limits still apply, and the allowance does not guarantee that every format can be processed. Check the current workspace documentation.
